Cabbage and Ground Meat Casserole


– 3 tablespoons butter
– 1 cabbage, approx. 770 g / 1.7 lb
– Ground meat, pork, or turkey 450 g / 1 lb


– 1 teaspoon dried parsley
– 1 teaspoon paprika
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
– 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
– 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
– 1/4 teaspoon dried sage
– 1/4 teaspoon black Pepper
– 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
– 1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes or to taste

1. Preheat oven to 300°F / 150°C.
2. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
3. Cut the cabbage into thin strips and add to the pot. Simmer until the cabbage is slightly soft, about 5 to 7 minutes.
4. Mix the ground meat and all the spices in a separate bowl.
5. Spread half of the cabbage in the bottom of the baking dish. Next, layer the seasoned ground meat on top.
6. Place the remaining cabbage on top of the meat layer.
7. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 2.5 hours.
8. After baking, remove the foil and serve the casserole hot.
