Christmas Baklava


  • 1/2 poundpecans,
  • 1/2 poundwalnuts,
  • 2-3 tbsp. cinnamon powder
  • 1 pound package phyllo dough
  • 1-1/2 cups melted butter
  • 2-1/2 cups honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon grated lemon zest
  • Grind the nuts in a large bowl Mix with cinnamon. Set aside.

Butter a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Place 2 sheets of phyllo in the bottom of the prepared pan. Brush generously with melted butter.
Sprinkle 2-3 tablespoons of the nut mixture on top. Repeat layers until all nuts, butter, and phyllo are used.
Finish by stacking about 6 layers of filo. If you have any leftover butter, spread it over the top layer.
Using a very sharp knife, cut through all the layers of baklava. Cut 3 to 4 pieces lengthwise.
Next, cut diagonally to create a diamond shape.
Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven until golden brown and crispy, about 45 minutes.
While the baklava is baking, heat the honey in a saucepan until almost boiling. Stir in the vanilla and lemon zest.
Once the baklava is finished baking, immediately pour the honey mixture over it.
Leave it in the pot to cool completely.
