Braised Oxtails Recipe


1 tablespoon olive oil
2 pounds oxtail, cut into 2-inch pieces
1 tablespoon salt
1 small onion, coarsely chopped
2 tablespoons minced garlic
1/2 cup red wine
Worcestershire sauce 1/2 cup
beef broth 5 cups
ground black pepper 1 teaspoon

1. Heat the olive oil in a heavy-bottomed saucepan. Dust the oxtail with the seasoned flour and brown on all sides. Remove; place on paper towel to drain excess oil.
2. In a heavy stockpot, preheat beef stock, garlic, black pepper, onion, red wine, and Worcestershire sauce to a boil.
3. Add the browned oxtail, reduce heat to a simmer, cover and continue cooking. Simmer for 2 1/2 to 3 hours, stirring occasionally to prevent the tails from sticking. If the liquid is low, add 2 more cups of boiling water as needed and continue cooking the oxtail until tender. Make your own sauce this way.
4. Once the oxtail is tender, remove it to a bowl and ladle in the sauce. Enjoy with rice, mashed potatoes, pasta, etc.
