Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 4 oz sweet german chocolate
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup softened butter
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cups cake flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 4 egg whites, whipped until stiff
  • coconut pecan frosting
  • 1 cup (1 1/2 cups) sugar
  • 1/2 cup (3/4 cup) butter
  • 1 cup (12 oz can) evaporated milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla (1 1/2 teaspoons)
  • 3 egg yolks (4 egg yolks)
  • 1 1/3 cups (2 cups) shredded coconut
  • 1 cup (1 1/2 cups) chopped pecans
