Shrimp and Sausage Gumbo
material:
- 2 cans of steamed tomatoes (14 oz or 420 ml each)
- 1/4 lb (120 g) low-fat smoked sausage, thinly sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, finely chopped
- 1 clove of garlic (peeled and finely chopped)
- 1/8 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1/2 lb (240 g) sliced fresh okra
- 3/4 pound medium shrimp (peeled and deveined)
- salt, to taste
- 3 cups (750ml) warm rice
Shrimp and Sausage Gumbo

Instructions:
Combine all ingredients except okra, shrimp, salt and rice in a 6L slow cooker. Mix thoroughly to distribute evenly.
Close the slow cooker lid and set the heat to low. Cook the mixture for 6-7 hours. Add the sliced okra to the mixture during the last 30 minutes of cooking. During the last 10 minutes of cooking, add the peeled and deveined shrimp.
After the cooking time has elapsed, turn off the slow cooker. Season the shrimp and sausage mixture with salt.
Spoon the flavorful shrimp and sausage mixture over warm rice and enjoy.
