Magic Custard Bars

INGREDIENTS

  • 4 eggs, individually
  • 1¼ cup white sugar
  • ½ cup melted unsalted butter
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups warm milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • powdered sugar

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat oven to 325°F.
Lightly grease a 9-inch baking pan.
In a large bowl, using an electric whisk, beat the egg whites until stiff. Put aside.
In another large bowl, beat egg yolks, powdered sugar, butter and a pinch of salt until well combined and light yellow.Slowly pour the milk into the egg yolk mixture. Add vanilla extract and flour.
Gradually add the egg whites to the flour. Do not exaggerate.
Pour batter into prepared pan and bake 40 to 50 minutes or until set.The center should wobble slightly as you pull it out.
Allow to cool completely in the refrigerator before slicing. Before serving, sprinkle generously with powdered sugar.
